Much more than a double bass player, Nelson Cascais established himself - with the release of four albuns under his name - as a composer with a personal and consistent idea regarding the music he performs.
A major musician of the iberian scene, Nelson Cascais has already teamed up with Aaron Goldberg, David Binney, Avishai Cohen, Rick Margitza, John Ellis, Nelson Veras, Maria Schneider, Jerome Richardson, António Faraó, Brad Shepik, Abe Rabade, Perico Sambeat, Dave O ́Higgins, Jesse Davis, Jesus Santandreu, Maria João, Mário Laginha, Ivan Padduart, Sara Serpa, Carlos Martins, Benny Lackner, Matt Renzi, Markku Ounaskari, Jarmo Savolainen, Jesse Chandler, André Fernandes, Bernardo Sassetti, among many others playing the major concert halls and jazz festivals in Spain, Finland, Germany, Belgium, Letónia, Greece, Switzerland, Cuba, India, China, Mozambique and Angola.
With some of them Cascais founded his current band, and just the mentioning of their names is a guarantee of quality: besides Matt Renzi and André Fernandes other names are involved such as the prominent pianist Óscar Graça and the veteran André S. Machado. The new cd “The Golden Fish” aims to balance writing and improvisation, gathering in a same object the diversity of aesthetic influences of each one of the associated personalities.
The result is an open, wide music, with all the inevitable influences of so many other music and sounds from this and other planets, and with the first goal of being a source of pleasure to the performers and to the listeners.
